6th Annual Memorial Weekend Trip 2002
Well once again everybody had a great time with our kick off to the summer camping trip. This year we stayed down in the Longwater Gulch area. We found a great camp site along the Tarryall creek that flows into the South Platte. Members of the group arrived at different times from Wednesday all the way until Saturday morning. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate quite so well for the early birds and they got snowed on Thursday night, but by Friday afternoon it was shaping up to be a great weekend. The big trail day started on Saturday Morning. The plan was to go up Hackett Gulch and come back down Long water. We also hit a little side trail off Hackett that provided a nice little ledge, but eventually dead ended back at the river.
On this side trail from Hackett we found this little ledge that provided entertainment...especially on the way back up.
After tackling the side trail we continued on up Hackett. Eventually we came upon the infamous Hackett Rock. Since we were going up the trail we actually went down the rock face, weird.... I know??
After reaching the top of the valley we took a another forest service road to the start of Long Water. Heading down long water was a pretty easy run, of course we stopped at the large rock face about half way down.

Also towards the bottom of long water is a nice section of moguls where you can definitely show some flex or lack there of.
After the run we headed back to camp to drink a few brew-has and eat a great dinner, including steak, corn and some great mushrooms from Iowa. (Don't worry everyone was fine;-) As the sun started to set, it was time to hit the hot tub. A hot tub in the middle of Pike National forest!!!! you say...... guess you just had to be there.
