Twin
Cone Memorial Pre-Run
On Sunday April 27th we set out with one goal in
mind…to find the best Memorial weekend camping spot yet.
With temperatures in the upper 50’s at 8:00 in the morning we knew good
things were bound to happen. After
meeting at our usual 285 & C-470 location we were off, headed south/west in
pursuit of the ultimate spot. After
making our turn near the top of Kenosha Pass we proceeded on toward the Twin
Cone’s trailhead… We were able
to find several very suitable sites along the way.
We figured while we were there we might as well see if we could make the
run up to the Cone’s… There
were tons of great mud bogs created by the recent snows.
We continued through both gates and proceeded up the trail busting
through snowdrifts all along the way. The
snow was perfect for traction. I’d
bust through each drift as far as I could go, back up, and keel it again.
Blazing a fresh trail for everyone…

We got
to a final hairpin turn, which led to a steep uphill climb.
This wouldn’t have been a problem if it weren’t for the 2 feet of
snow on it. The snow began to melt
and become slushy so we decided this would be our lunch spot and a good turn
around point for the day. The area
is awesome…so was the weather! Bring
on Memorial weekend! Can’t wait!
Christopher…
