We had originally set out to run Wheeler lake for fathers day, but due to the fires in Teller and Park counties we diverted the plan to Bill Moore lake trail.  We began our journey at the Buffalo Heard overlook on I-70 at 8:00am.  We had a sizeable group with 11 vehicles in all.  We took highway 40 to the town of Empire and took a right turn at the main intersection in Empire.  We found a nice wide area at the beginning of the trail and took a moment to release that highway pressure from our tires.  After making a couple of tight switchbacks upward there is an optional “shortcut” available to the left.  Of course always being up for a challenge a handful of us took it on.  It is straight up and lined with basketball and larger sized boulders…not to mention huge logs and rocks lining each side providing tight quarters even for down sized vehicles.  Once we completed that section we took a left up a series of moguls.  The next minor obstacle was an uphill climb on very loose shale with a just enough holes in it to provide a little fun.  The final obstacle is the Bill Moore car wash.  This sippie hole is just big enough to cover the hood of an average sized Jeep when full of water.  On this run it was completely dry, making an easy pass by all.  Once at the lake there were several large snow fields surrounding making for some keeler scenery!  This trail definitely has a little something for everyone!  What a keeler fathers day run!                                                                                    Chris…
