Bill Moore Lake
2005
Bill Moore lake seems to always hold lots in the way of adventure. With the weather forecast calling for snow, there is always the potential for some winter driving action. After meeting at the Buffalo Herd overlook we realized that the weather was definitely going to be a factor with a cold front moving in! We rolled to the trailhead without any problems arriving in true Edge style. We aired down the rubber to allow a little better ride and rock crawling ability. We locked in the hubs and began our journey to the lake.
We took the optional left straight up the toughest section of trial without many problems, just some good wheeling action getting the adrenaline pumping. The only casualty was Super Dave’s tranny decided to give up the ghost on the first hill climb. He maintains that he never abused it—just to and from the grocery store, never any hard trial time….Not!!! We continued to make our way toward the lake. It began to sleet shortly turning to snow. What a beautiful scene! With 3 vehicles headed down to the lake, the packed snow began to get very slick. The remainder of us decided to turn it around and begin our decent. The others made it back up the hill with only a couple of problems due to the packed snow turning to ice. We took it easy all the way down and hit the Hard Rock Café there in the town of Empire. We sat down just to realize they couldn’t even serve us a beer! They lost their liquor license! Bummer!!! We enjoyed a couple of Root Beers and headed for home! What a keeler day! Can’t wait for next year!!! Christopher…
