Green Mountain
Reservoir

When its Dad’s day and the weather in Denver is predicted to be in the upper 90’s, there are only a couple of ways to beat the heat... Since we weren’t in the San Juan’s, diving into a lake that was just barely above freezing wasn’t an option. Our solution was to rise above the heat! Well not exactly, but the mid to upper 70’s were sure better than the 90’s! We began with a nasty hill climb on the north side of the res. Our well equipped group had no trouble with the climb. The only problem was the lack of space to turn around at the top, coupled with the off camber hill gave the term “Pucker Power” some forgotten respect. We then proceeded to the East side of the reservoir. There were a couple of trails in particular that Brent had mapped out and wanted to explore. As with any scouting expedition, we were excited to see some new terrain, and find some new challenges along the way. The first run on the East side was a steady climb up a very dusty trail through thick sage brush. At the top we found a nice view and a great place to have lunch. After enjoying a nice cool breeze over lunch, we made our way down to the other side. After realizing that we couldn’t enter Cataract Lake without paying a fee, we once again took it up the east side. This time we found a couple of excellent trails to tackle. The first one had some massive hill climbs resulting in some wicked views and awesome pictures. The next leg was just a leap away and crept up on you like a bicyclist’s speedo! Yea, the washouts were crazy without a bit of maintenance. It was a great opportunity to show some flexin’ skills! The mid point to the trail brought us a mad off camber with a hole strategically placed on the downhill left front tire position, sweet! The next section was a complete washout leaving an exposed pipeline for your roll bar to land on if you picked the wrong line! This trail ended at a cliff that was once a trail many years ago! What a stellar Dad’s day! I couldn’t think of a better way spend it with the kido’s! Cheers, til’ next time! Chris…
