Safari Gard Rock Sliders

The same day that we installed the Old Man Emu lift Chris also wanted to put on a set of Safari Gard Rock sliders. The sliders require that you remove the small trim pieces below the door and quarter panels. This was the most work of the install as there are several bolts that hold each of these on. The new rock slider will be placed where these body pieces were. There are screws that hold the front and rear fender that must be replaced once the body pieces are missing.

Once these pieces are removed you will see a large protruding from the frame. This is where the T style brackets that came with the sliders go. They must be pounded in with the gusset side down and the flat side up. We cleaned out the inside of the tubes on the Rover in order to get a better fit. But with a big enough hammer you shouldn’t have a problem. We had to pound them pretty much as far as they would go to get the right fit. As you can see from the photo the bolt hole is oblong so you don’t necessarily have to have them perfect. The instruction say to tack weld these in place but we didn’t think they where going anywhere just with the interference fit. Next fit the rock slider up and insert the bolt in to the bracket you just pounded in. The front is held on by the really long factory bolt, reinstalled in the stock position. Repeat on the other side and you now have rock sliders.
